I was inspired by a writing challenge from a fellow mom on Instagram.
@mytalesfromthecrib challenged moms to write 30 things that make them amazing. I started the list for fun to see how many I could come up with. The first few were hard, but once I got into the groove, I actually ended up with more than 30 and I think I could keep going!
At the end of this little exercise, I felt like I WAS pretty amazing and I was pretty proud of my list. So i thought I would share it with you on here:
- I have a full time job as a pharmacist. I work with a lot of patients with cancer. I cry with their family members when I’m told that they have died.
- I throw my kids awesome birthday parties. I threw a “chicka chicka boom boom” birthday party once and I made a papier mache box for each kid there that was shaped like the first letter of their name.
- I love singing and I was in my high school musical. It was The Sound of Music, and I played a young nun.
- I dance pretty well. I danced and planned a whole dance routine for my brother’s wedding. I was the oldest in the group, and the only one who had two kids. But I held my own.
- I had my second child without an epidural.
- I got into a car accident while I was 9 weeks pregnant. Cried and then went on to finishing packing, because I was moving houses the next day.
- I work out 4-5 times a week for my health.
- I had gestational diabetes twice, and I worked so hard to manage and control my glucose. It was really tough, but I did it!
- I taught myself how to play simple tunes on the piano. One day I want to get actual lessons.
- I had really short hair that was inspired by Neve Campbell in the late 90s. I looked pretty cool.
- I have way too many sweaters, but one winter season I made sure I wore every single one. #leavenosweaterbehind
- One time I reverse parked and I did it perfectly. I never tried again.
- When I was a kid, I changed the hard-drive inside my computer.
- I won a gold in my school science fair when I was 13. It was an experiment on the transmission of “germs” by handshaking. Who knew it would be kind of relevant today.
- I have been with my husband for almost two decades. We are literally each other’s best friend. I might argue that I am his only friend… But don’t tell him I said that.
- I am good at making puzzles, Scrabble and lots of board games. You could say I’m a nerd about it, but I’m also savagely competitive.
- I have written a few kids books, and I am hoping to release one soon. My kids are my biggest fans.
- I have quick reflexes. I even surprise myself with my ninja moves.
- I have a blog and an Instagram that showcases me. Most of my content is my own, and although it’s pretty small scale, I’m very proud of it.
- I work really hard at everything. My job, my marriage, my family and my kids.
- I have had the same friends for decades and although we don’t see each other all the time, I love them.
- I left a job that I liked because I had an asshole boss. I reported him to HR for his behaviour and though nothing came of it, I was proud of myself for standing up to him.
- I am amazing at finding a good deal.
- WHEN I clean, it’s pretty thorough and I feel like Superwoman after.
- For my second job ever, I had to drive 70km to get to the office. It was exhausting, and I continued doing it even when I was 9 months pregnant.
- I had a false positive pregnancy. And although it wasn’t a miscarriage, I allowed myself to feel actual grief and that makes me who I am today.
- I have a lot of goals in my life. And I always really want to keeping getting better.
- Oh, and I’m absolutely hilarious. Even if everyone doesn’t agree, I still think so.
- I am only 5 feet tall. But I have never felt like a small person. I’m bigger than my body gives me credit for.
- I beat my husband in video games.
- I can have full conversations about superheroes with my husband and kids.
- I have learned how to do the “floss” from my son. In turn, one day I will teach him Bhangra.
- I am a Pakistani Christian. I lived part of my life in the Middle East and was not allowed to practice my religion there. My faith gets stronger every day.
- I have lived in Canada for almost of all my life and I just made a snowman for the first time in my mid thirties.
Give it a try! Make a list of what makes you a kick-ass woman. You will see that there’s way more than 30 things…
